Knight, Jones, and Liggins all declare

Three of UK’s basketball players, Brandon Knight, Terrence Jones, and Deandre Liggins, have announced they will put their names into the 2011 NBA draft. Importantly, however, none of the three will hire an agent. This announcement comes after Kentucky coach John Calipari declared last week that it would be a “no brainer” for these three to enter.

For Knight and Jones, possibly lottery picks, this is an opportunity for them to confirm their status in the draft and buys them some time to weigh their options of actually staying in the draft. In light of an impending NBA lockout, their status is hardly set in stone.

For Liggins, a junior who enjoyed somewhat of a breakout season this year, this is an opportunity to gage his draft status from NBA GMs. Though projected much lower, if drafted at all, Liggins family situation, particularly his recent fatherhood, may play a part in his decision.

Players have until May 8 to make a final decision as whether to remain in the draft.
