Jeff Goodman is a disgrace to journalism

Check out this interview between Matt Jones of the Kentucky Sports Network and Jeff Goodman of Fox Sports. Goodman admits he “sat” on a story for 18 MONTHS just so he could “break” it the night before UK’s Final Four game with UConn. He admits it was really a non-story, just something to publish while UK was in the spotlight to earn himself some hits.

“Journalists” like Goodman are what is wrong with the industry today. He clearly has an agenda, promoting himself, that supersedes any journalistic ethics. If it was a story, Goodman should have published it when he got it. The only thing was that UK had already reported it to the NCAA and it was a “down” time for both UK and college basketball. Goodman admits that had UK lost to UNC, he’d have continued to sit on the story. This is disgraceful. Fox Sports should hold Goodman accountable for his unethical behavior. If Goodman is going to masquerade as a journalist trying to expose ethical issues in sports, he should tend to his own house first.

Agree, Chuck. In fact, Clark Kellogg and Jim Nance both stated during the UK game that Calipari was never even implicated in the other vacated Final Four fiascos. I may have my questions about him, but until I have proof, I will continue to root for them while he’s the coach.

As an aside, as much as I love and still support Jim Tressel 100%, OSU fans can’t climb too hard on UK (or at all). JT was not just implicated, he blatantly made a huge mistake and a horrendous judgment call. I still support him because I realize that even the best of people can make bad judgments; but the point is that Buckeye fans certainly can’t throw stones.
