Daily Rant

What would a sports blog be without at least one unhinged, totally emotional, over-the-top reaction each day? That’s the definition of a fan, right? Each day, I’ll post my daily rant, a piece composed almost entirely without thought, merely reacting to something (usually stupid) from the world of sports.

The media should provide no end of sources for rants. Let’s start with Digger Phelps (ESPN alone could be a separate blog!). Why is he on my television last night providing insight into how to win a championship game? The closest Digger ever came to a championship was a 1978 beatdown at the hands of Kentucky. Digger has about as much insight on winning big games as Marv Levy…come to think of it, at least Marv got to the big games. If you’re going to prop up ex-coaches with lousy resumes, at least let Vitale do it. He’s exciting and can pronounce “Shabazz Napier.”

Is it a Notre Dame thing at ESPN? It’s not like Digger is all that charismatic. At least Lou Holtz, when he gives his pep talks, speaks from some degree of authority. As they are wont to say in Bristol: “C’mon Man!” Of all the ex-coaches out there to break down games, the “Worldwide Leader” can’t come up with someone with a better resume than Digger Phelps?
